Whats Happening Inside me Beside you
A Parent & Child Guide to Big Feelings, Regulation & Connection
Big feelings don’t have to become battles.
When a child is yelling, shutting down, refusing, hitting, crying, or completely overwhelmed, it can be hard for a parent to know what to do in the moment.
Inside Me, Beside You was created to help families look beyond the behaviour and begin understanding what may be happening underneath.
This gentle, practical downloadable guide gives children tools to understand their emotions and body signals, while giving parents simple ways to pause, respond, set boundaries, and stay connected.
Inside the guide, families will explore:
- Feelings & body cues — helping children notice what emotions feel like inside their bodies.
- The nervous system made simple — child-friendly ways to understand calm, alert, overwhelmed, and shut-down states.
- Behaviour as communication — helping parents shift from “How do I stop this behaviour?” to “What might my child be communicating?”
- Calming tools children can actually use — breathing, movement, sensory strategies, calm spaces, connection and more.
- What to say during big feelings — practical language for sadness, anger, worry, frustration and overwhelm.
- Connection + boundaries — because understanding a feeling doesn’t mean allowing unsafe behaviour.
- Repair after difficult moments — simple ways to reconnect when things haven’t gone as planned.
- Parent reflection — helping grown-ups notice their own triggers and responses, too.
- Interactive pages — body mapping, a family calm plan, feelings journaling, reflection pages and space to write or draw.
This isn’t about perfect parenting.
It’s about helping your child gradually learn:
“I can have a big feeling and still be safe.”
“My body is trying to tell me something.”
“I can learn what helps.”
“My grown-up can be beside me while I figure it out.”
And helping parents remember:
Connection and boundaries can exist at the same time.
